GROWING – Chives are a member of the onion family. They are simple to grow and are perfect for pots and planters. Plant in a sunny position in rich, moist soil and cut from the base when needed. The flowers are edible too, but you can just snip these away.
FLAVOUR - They have a subtle onion flavour which is quite sweet.
COOKING - Chives are excellent with egg dishes, baked potatoes and general potatoes, sauces and soups. Add at the end of cooking to keep the heat from destroying the flavour.
HEALTH BENEFITS - Chives are known to be good for the digestion system and have anti-inflammatory properties. Research also suggests that they can discourage growth of cancerous cells.
