Basil

BASILGROWING – Basil is the perfect herb to grow on your kitchen windowsill. If growing outside, plant in a pot or container in a sheltered, sunny position to protect from frost. Water quite sparingly and remove flower spikes, or new leaves will not grow.

Pick the leaves from the top of the plant and at the end of the summer you can pick all the leaves and make a pesto.

FLAVOUR - Basil has a fragrant, slightly peppery taste. It is best cooked.

COOKING – Leaves can be used whole, or roughly torn. Add at the end of cooking as heat ruins the flavour quite quickly. Best used with tomatoes, garlic and in salads, pastas and stews.

HEALTH BENEFITS – Research shows that Basil has anti-inflammatory properties which can help Arthritis.
